Jessica Friedrichs serves as Coordinator of the Service-Learning and Outreach Center. She is also a faculty member in the Social Work Department of the School for Social Change. Over the past 10 years, she has engaged in service-learning as a student, community partner, trainer, facilitator and instructor. She has presented at local and national service-learning conferences and published in the journal Social Justice. She has co-taught global service-learning courses in Bolivia, Tanzania, Northern Ireland, Jamaica and the Navajo Nation through the Amizade Global Service-Learning Center and currently serves on Amizade’s Board of Directors. In Pittsburgh, she has worked in the non-profit sector with local and global service-learning, the refugee population, in a community-based foundation and with a variety of AmeriCorps programs including Jumpstart and Public Allies. She holds a Master’s in Social Work and a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Pittsburgh.

Carrie Benson works in the Service-Learning and Outreach Center as the Assistant Coordinator through the AmeriCorps program Pennsylvania Campus Compact. Throughout the last few years Carrie has been actively involved in the Pittsburgh community by serving as a board member for the Pittsburgh based nonprofit organization, Dreams of Hope, and through her involvement as an intern with The Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force. While studying at the University of Pittsburgh, Carrie worked on a research project with a faculty member in the Political Science Department investigating the hiring practices of presidential appointments. She studied and traveled throughout Asia, the Middle East, and Europe on a Semester at Sea voyage. She holds a Bachelors Degree from the University of Pittsburgh.
